Northeast Monsoon in Full Swing: Tamil Nadu Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin Directs Intensified Relief Efforts

Chennai, 22 October (H.S.) : Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin confirmed on Wednesday that the Northeast monsoon is now in full swing across the state, with continuous rainfall being reported in key districts including Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, and Chengalpattu.

Speaking at a review meeting held at the DMK headquarters in Chennai, he noted that while current rainfall is steady, the Meteorological Department has warned that rain is expected to resume in two days and may even intensify, potentially exceeding last year's rainfall levels. The meeting, which included Minister for Municipal Administration K. N. Nehru and various district-level party officials, focused on precautionary measures and relief activities to be undertaken by DMK members in the field.

Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin highlighted the state's preparedness, noting that while continuous rainfall has led to waterlogging in a few places, the water drains out within an hour. He observed that residents who call him to visit waterlogged localities do so with trust, believing their issues will be resolved by the government. The Deputy CM stressed the importance of honoring this public trust by remaining engaged.

Following the meeting, he conducted a survey of the Medavakkam lake area in Chennai, which is surrounded by water due to the heavy downpour. He provided suggestions to drain the water and assured local residents that the state government is committed to resolving their problems.

This inspection followed extensive field checks conducted the previous day across Chennai, including the overflowing Narayanapuram Lake in Pallikaranai, to review the ongoing precautionary and preventive measures.
