Hooghly, 22 October (H.S.): A newborn baby was stolen from Serampore Walsh Hospital in Hooghly district on Wednesday morning. Within hours, the police recovered the baby and arrested a woman. Serious questions are now being raised about the hospital's security system.

As per information, the newborn's mother, Neha Devi, was admitted to the hospital. At that time, an unknown woman approached her and expressed her desire to hold the baby. Trusting her, Neha Devi handed the baby to the woman. Allegedly, as soon as the baby was handed over, the woman fled the hospital with the baby.

The family was alarmed upon learning of the newborn's disappearance. The family immediately filed a police complaint. On information, Serampore police responded. The Inspector in-charge, the ACP, and senior Chandannagar Police Commissionerate officers arrived at the scene.

The police examined CCTV footage from the hospital, which clearly showed the accused woman leaving the hospital's main entrance with the child. Subsequently, a citywide blockade was imposed and a search operation was launched. Within hours, the police apprehended the woman at More and safely recovered the newborn.

Both the family and the police breathed a sigh of relief after the child was safely returned to its mother. The family praised the police's promptness.
