Bhubaneswar, 21 October (H.S.): An undertrial prisoner was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside Bargarh district jail late on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as Giridhari Bahidar (38), a resident of Jhanapada village under Attabira police limits. He had been lodged in the jail since August after being arrested in connection with a POCSO case.
While the exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained, preliminary reports suggest that Bahidar may have died by electrocution after coming in contact with a live wire.
According Jail officials , “Bahidar was in Cell No. 8. He came in contact with a live electric wire while the other inmates were asleep. Hearing his cries, they rushed to his aid and disconnected the power supply, but he succumbed a short while later.”
Police have launched an inquiry into the incident, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
