Kamrup (Assam), 21 October (HS): A man drowned while fishing in a water-filled pit at Ganakpara under Chaygaon in Kamrup (Rural) district on Tuesday morning. The deceased has been identified as Bipul Daimari, a resident of No. 2 Ganakpara.

According to police, Bipul had entered a deep pit filled with water near his house to catch fish, during which the mishap occurred. On receiving information, local residents launched a search and managed to pull him out after a long effort, but he had already died.

Chaygaon police reached the spot, took possession of the body and sent it for post-mortem. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway. The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the area.
