Hooghly, 21 October (H.S.): Manali Ghosh, a resident of Baubazar Battala in Chandannagar of Hooghly district, attempted suicide by jumping into the Ganges River, allegedly due to workplace harassment and mental stress. According to preliminary investigations, the police have detained two people in connection with the case. As of Tuesday afternoon, no trace of Manali had been found. Divers were searching for her.

According to sources, the woman left a letter and mobile phone on the riverbank on Tuesday morning and jumped into the Ganges River. Witnesses said that Manali jumped into the Ganges River in front of Joseph School in Chandannagar. The police recovered her mobile phone and letter on the riverbank. Investigations have revealed that workplace harassment was the motive behind her suicide attempt.

According to the family, Manali's marriage was registered three years ago, and the formal wedding was scheduled for February 3rd. The groom's name is Satyajit Rai, a resident of the Shitalatala area of Battala. The family was preparing for the wedding when the woman attempted to jump into the Ganges. The father alleged that his daughter was humiliated at the workplace.

As per information, Manali had been working as a sales girl at a jewellery shop at Bagbazar in Chandannagar for the past three years. Locals reported seeing her sitting outside the shop, crying, a few days ago. On Tuesday morning, she reported to her family that the shop owner had forced her to resign.

Following the incident, the shop's owners, Sanjay and Mamta Das, were detained. Mamta claimed that Manali was suffering from depression.

Manali's brother-in-law, Shubhajit Rai, said, There was some problem at the shop, but we cannot reveal the exact cause. There was an argument on Tuesday morning. After that, Manali went out. She called her brother and said, 'This shop is no longer operational.' She was sitting at the stand, and when her brother arrived, what was to happen had already happened.

The police are investigating the matter and other employees are being questioned.
