Salem Man Stabs Wife to Death During Reconciliation Attempt After Marital Dispute

Chennai, 18 October (H.S.) : A shocking incident unfolded in Salem on Friday, where a man allegedly stabbed his wife to death during what was intended to be a peace talk aimed at resolving months of marital disputes. The tragic event occurred at the parents' residence of the victim, Rathidevi, in Thagoor Street, Dadagapatty.

The deceased has been identified as Rathidevi (27), and the accused is her husband, Kannan (37), who operates a scrap metal business. According to reports, the couple had been experiencing frequent and heated disputes, primarily stemming from Kannan’s suspicion of his wife’s infidelity. Following a major argument two months prior, Rathidevi had left their marital home and moved back in with her parents, where she continued to reside despite Kannan’s repeated attempts to convince her to reunite.

The fatal incident occurred when Kannan visited the house on Friday to try and persuade Rathidevi to return. During the visit, a fresh and intense argument broke out between them. In a fit of rage, Kannan allegedly took out a knife and attacked Rathidevi.

Rathidevi sustained severe injuries and collapsed at the scene. She was immediately rushed to the Salem Government Hospital but succumbed to her injuries en route.

The Annadhanapatti police were alerted to the crime. Authorities swiftly registered a case based on the incident, launching an immediate investigation into the murder. The police confirmed that the accused, Kannan, was successfully apprehended shortly after the incident.

He remains in custody as the investigation proceeds, awaiting further legal procedures regarding the domestic violence turned murder case.
