Delhi, 18 October (H.S.): Indian Railways has announced a crackdown on individuals and groups spreading misinformation and creating confusion among passengers by sharing old or misleading videos on social media, particularly during the busy festive season.
In a statement on Saturday, the railway administration confirmed that it has identified over 20 social media handles responsible for circulating false content. The process of filing First Information Reports (FIRs) against these accounts has been initiated. To combat the spread of rumors, social media platforms are now under 24/7 monitoring to ensure immediate action can be taken against offenders.
Railways has urged the public to verify the authenticity of any information or videos before sharing them. Passengers are advised to rely solely on official notifications and announcements from the railway's official social media handles on platforms such as X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
The administration has made it clear that strict legal action will be taken against any person or group found guilty of disseminating false information.
