Murshidabad, 12 October (H.S.):

The Police of Shamsherganj police station in Murshidabad district have arrested arrested two suspects from Dhuliyan Ganga Ghat area and recovered nearly ₹200,000 worth of counterfeit currency from their possession.

On Sunday, the police said that the arrested suspects are Taimur Sheikh (50) and Farida Bibi (38), both residents of the Hajipur area under the Vaishnavnagar police station in Malda district. The police have recovered approximately ₹199,500 worth of counterfeit currency from them.

The police said that the quantity of counterfeit currency recovered suggests it is part of a larger counterfeit currency racket. Preliminary investigations also suggest that this consignment of counterfeit currency was being smuggled into the country illegally from border areas.

The police are now trying to determine who else is involved in this racket. The arrested accused are being interrogated to uncover their accomplices and network.

As per information, the accused were planning to circulate these counterfeit notes in local markets. Following this incident, police patrols have been increased in the area. The local administration has also increased vigilance and is monitoring various markets and public places.

Both accused were produced in court on Sunday. The investigation into the case is ongoing.

Police officials have appealed to the public to be vigilant in identifying counterfeit notes. If anyone finds suspicious currency, they should immediately inform the nearest police station. The police believe that public awareness is the most effective way to stop the spread of counterfeit notes.
