Jodhpur, 07 January (HS): VisionNext Laboratory under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India is a unique initiative of NIFT which focuses on providing trend insights and forecasting for the Indian fashion and retail market. It also provides various trend-related consulting services, educational courses, workshops etc. It has been developed by combining artificial intelligence and emotional intelligence which is a completely indigenous forecasting system for the Indian market. This was said by Prof. GHS Prasad, Director, NIFT Jodhpur, who was speaking at a discussion organized on VisionNext Laboratory in the NIFT campus on Tuesday.
Prasad said that its main mission is to map the complexity and diversity of India's fashion landscape according to the needs of Indian consumers, and empower businesses, designers, brands, retailers, artisans and weavers. In this way, the VisionNext initiative will promote healthy global competition and take Indian culture and design to new heights globally.
Will reduce dependence on global agencies
Prasad said that India's entry into the trend forecasting sector will bring many benefits, it will reduce dependence on global forecasting agencies, as well as provide unique insight into Indian fashion consumers. It will work to enhance India's strength on the global stage by combining technology, AI and EI with textiles in the field of information technology. The initiative also involves the creation of a detailed dataset featuring more than 70,000 primary apparel images and more than 280,000 secondary images, allowing analysis of key apparel characteristics such as style, color and regional influences.
It explains fashion trends in India by identifying specific product characteristics, such as differentiating between kurta and kurti, recognizing colors such as red or yellow, and noting plain or striped, short or long styles, etc.
VisionNext is thus the only trend insights research lab in India that collects this comprehensive data through a network of over 800 trained trend spotters across 16 cities. These trend spotters not only capture the mood and sentiment of everyday life, but are also able to inform emerging product trends through a unique ethical image collection platform.
