Chandigarh, January 30 (HS): Elections for three important posts will be held today in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. This election will be held under the supervision of former judge Ms. Jayshree Thakur, the observer appointed by the Supreme Court. This time the Supreme Court has appointed an observer after allegations of rigging in votes during last year's elections. On Thursday, elections will be held for the posts of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Municipal Corporation in Chandigarh. Congress and Aam Aadmi Party are contesting the elections together here. Aam Aadmi Party has made councilor Prem Lata its mayor candidate. BJP has fielded Harpreet Babla as its candidate in this election.
For the post of Senior Deputy Mayor, BJP has fielded Lakhbir Singh Billu while AAP and Congress alliance has fielded Jasbir Singh Bunty. Similarly, for the post of Deputy Mayor, Bimla Dubey from BJP and Taruna Mehta from Congress and AAP alliance are in the fray. As per the instructions of the Supreme Court, video recording of the entire election process will be done. Ramnik Singh Bedi has been appointed as the presiding officer for this election.
