Mahakumbh Nagar, January 29 (HS): The Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a three-member judicial inquiry commission under the chairmanship of former judge Harsh Kumar to investigate the accident that took place at Sangam Nose on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya bath. The police will also investigate the accident. The Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh will visit the spot on Thursday. The state government will provide financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh each to the dependents of the deceased.
90 devotees were injured in the stampede at Sangam Nose on Tuesday night, out of which 30 died.
On the death of 30 people in the Mahakumbh stampede, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, “The incident is extremely sad, my humble tribute to the deceased. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. We will get to the bottom of this incident by conducting a thorough investigation. Apart from this, we will also conduct a separate investigation at the police level to find out the reasons behind this incident. The families of the deceased will be given financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh each. The judicial commission will look into the entire matter and submit its report to the state government within a time limit. “While giving information about this incident, the Chief Minister became emotional.
Former judge Harsh Kumar has been made the chairman of the three-member judicial commission constituted to investigate this accident. Former DGP V.K. Gupta and retired IAS B.K. Singh are the members of the commission. The judicial commission will look into the entire matter and submit its report to the state government within a time limit.
On Wednesday, Mela Adhikari Vijay Kiran Anand and DIG Mela Vaibhav Krishna held a joint press conference. DIG Vaibhav Krishna said that this accident occurred due to the breaking of barricades under the pressure of heavy crowd. The devotees lying on the ground were crushed under the feet of the running devotees. He said that 90 devotees were injured in the accident, out of which 30 devotees died. 25 dead have been identified. Efforts are on to identify the remaining five. 24 injured have been sent home. Treatment of 36 injured is going on in the local hospital.
Fair Officer Vijay Kiran Anand said that there was no VVIP or VIP protocol today. There was no entry of any VIP vehicle today. He said that there will be no VIP protocol on the festival of Amrit Snan in future also. The fair officer said that the injured were taken to the hospital by creating a green corridor. The fair administration issued helpline number 1920 for information about the dead and injured.
