New Delhi, January 23 (HS): The 53rd Foundation Day of the National Union of Journalists India (NUJI) was celebrated in Delhi, where President Ras Bihari highlighted the organization's role during the Emergency. He emphasized the organization's constant demands from the government to protect journalists and their rights, including the Journalist Protection Act, formation of a Media Commission, and National Register of Journalists. NUJI has been organizing workshops, seminars, and discussions to help journalists face new technologies in journalism and improve their professional skills.
NUJI has always been in favor of editorial freedom and has been at the forefront of the struggle to keep it above the commercial interests of newspaper owners. After the new government came to power in March 1977, NUJI insisted on renewing the board or the formation of a tribunal. The Janata Party government passed an Act from Parliament to form the tribunal, and NUJI presented many evidences before the government. Justice Palekar acknowledged the contribution of NUJI.
Delhi Patrakar Sangh President Rakesh Thapliyal and General Secretary Pramod Kumar Singh congratulated the journalists present and expressed happiness that NUJI President Ras Bihari, Sachin Budholia, and Shriram Joshi have been included in the restructuring committee of the Central Media Accreditation Committee (CMAC) of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for two years (2025-27). The journalists also congratulated the newly elected members of CMAC.
