New Delhi, 15 January (H.S.): The domestic stock market was successful in closing with gains for the second consecutive day today. Today's trading also started with strength. However, there was a continuous tussle between the bulls and the bears today. Due to this tussle, the stock market also reached the red mark for some time, but after a while the buyers bought it and brought it back to the green mark. After the whole day's trading, the Sensex closed with a gain of 0.29 percent and Nifty with a gain of 0.16 percent.
Today, during the whole day's trading, there was continuous buying in the shares of infrastructure, PSE and realty sector. Similarly, IT, metal, energy, banking, capital goods, consumer durable and tech index also closed with gains. On the other hand, there was selling pressure in the stocks of automobile, pharmaceutical, oil and gas and FMCG sector. There was general buying in the broader market today, due to which the BSE midcap index closed with a gain of 0.11 percent. Similarly, the smallcap index ended today's trading with a gain of 0.34 percent.
Due to the strength in the stock market today, the wealth of stock market investors increased by more than Rs 1 lakh crore. The market capitalization of companies listed on the BSE increased to Rs 424.41 lakh crore (provisional) after today's trading. Whereas on the previous trading day i.e. Tuesday, their market capitalization was Rs 423.23 lakh crore. In this way, investors made a profit of about Rs 1.18 lakh crore from today's trading.
There was active trading in 4,064 shares in BSE during the day today. Of these, 2,150 stocks closed with gains, while 1,806 stocks declined, while 108 stocks closed without any fluctuation. Active trading took place in 2,515 stocks on NSE today. Of these, 1,371 stocks closed in the green mark after making profits and 1,144 stocks closed in the red mark after suffering losses. Similarly, out of the 30 stocks included in the Sensex, 19 stocks closed with gains and 11 stocks closed with losses. While out of the 50 stocks included in the Nifty, 26 stocks closed in the green mark and 24 stocks closed in the red mark.
The BSE Sensex today jumped 400.51 points to open at 76,900.14 points. After the market opened, buyers and sellers started trying to dominate each other, due to which the movement of this index kept fluctuating continuously. With the support of buying, this index rose by 491.42 points to reach 76,991.05 points. At the same time, due to selling pressure, this index fell to 76,479.70 points with a weakness of 19.93 points. After the whole day's trading, the Sensex closed at 76,724.08 points with a gain of 224.45 points. Like the Sensex, NSE's Nifty started trading today with a gain of 74.40 points at the level of 23,250.45 points. As soon as the market opened, the tussle between the bulls and the bears started, due to which the movement of this index kept going up and down. With the support of buying, this index rose by 117.60 points to reach 23,293.65 points. On the other hand, due to selling pressure, the index fell by 29.60 points to 23,146.45 points. After the day's buying, Nifty closed at 23,213.20 points with a gain of 37.15 points.
After the buying and selling in the whole day's trading, among the big stocks of the stock market, Trent Limited 3.72 percent, NTPC 3.53 percent, Power Grid Corporation 2.89 percent, Kotak Mahindra 2.23 percent and Maruti Suzuki 1.76 percent were included in the list of today's top 5 gainers. On the other hand, Mahindra & Mahindra 2.93 percent, Bajaj Finserv 2.44 percent, Axis Bank 2.36 percent, Bajaj Finance 2.15 percent and Shriram Finance 2 percent were included in the list of today's top 5 losers.
