Kolkata, 15 January (H.S.): The Headquarters Eastern Command of the Indian Army commemorated the 77th Army Day with great fervor and patriotism at Vijay Durg, Kolkata. The celebration paid tribute to the valiant soldiers who have dedicated their lives to the service of the nation.
Army Day, observed annually on 15 January, marks the historic appointment of General (later Field Marshal) K.M. Cariappa as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army in 1949. To honor this momentous occasion, Lt Gen Ram Chander Tiwari, (UYSM, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command), laid a wreath at Vijay Smarak, saluting the bravery and sacrifices of the nation's heroes.
As part of the celebrations, 16 units of the Eastern Command were awarded the prestigious Chief of the Army Staff Unit Citation, while 45 units received the GOC-in-C, Eastern Command Unit Citation. These honors recognized their exceptional service and unwavering dedication to duty.
The Indian Army, known for its professionalism and commitment, has been steadfast in its role of protecting the country's borders, ensuring internal security, and extending humanitarian assistance during natural calamities. On this solemn yet proud occasion, the Army reaffirmed its resolve to safeguard the nation and its people with unwavering dedication.
