Nagpur, 13 Jan

(HS): No educational institution or university mentions ‘building a responsible

citizen’ in their objectives, although everyone knows that it is the basic

purpose of education of any kind. Many stalwarts have emphasised the need for

grooming children to become responsible citizens of India. Foundation For

Citizenhood Nagpur (FFC) is another step towards the forgotten objective of

education. This was stated by Founder Trustee and President of FFC Dr Arun

Kumar Sinha.

The CCF in Nagpur

was formally inaugurated on Sunday in the presence of a gathering of representatives of

many social organisations. Founder Trustees Reena A Sinha and senior journalist

and social worker Ajay Mardikar, Secretary and Trustee respectively, were

present on the dais.

Explaining the

concept of the term Citizenhood Dr Sinha said that the accepted and circulated

term of citizenship is a political term and documented. Citizenhood is different

in the sense that it embodies the realisation of one’s responsibility as an

Indian citizen towards the neighbourhood, society, region, nation, and the

world. The Constitution of India mentions about the Fundamental Rights of every

citizen. It also mentions the Corresponding Duties of the citizens. These

duties have been relegated to the back of mind. FFC aims to generate awareness

about these duties and strive for a responsible and responsive society with

respect for every individual. Every individual or organisation supporting the FFC

mission can start the process from their neighbourhood.

Dr Sinha has

been writing on Citizenhood for the last ten years. Some of his writings were

published in a book form titled ‘C for Citizenhood’ in 2015. Dr Sinha is a retired

Associate Professor from Matru Sewa Sangh Institute of Social Work, Nagpur. He

delivered lectures on the concept at several local, regional, state and

national level seminars and webinars.

An open house

discussion followed Dr Sinha explaining the concept. The FFC was formally declared

open by the ex-director of Nagpur University NSS unit Dr Bhau Daydar.

Reena Sinha made

introductory remarks. Ajay Mardikar was the facilitator for the discussion and

later proposed a vote of thanks.
