Kathmandu, January 10 (HS): The work of repairing the pillars that mark the international border between the two countries between the open border of Nepal and India has been formally started.

As per the decision of the Border Working Group meeting between the two countries, this work has been started from the eastern border of Nepal. The border security officials of both the countries have done the repair work of the border pillar near the Siliguri border of West Bengal.

SP Kavindra Rai of the Armed Police Force Jhapa district of Nepal said that it has been started from Border Pillar No. 95/12 near Siliguri in India and Mechinagar in Nepal. According to SP Rai, this work has been started in the presence of the Border Security Force SSB of India.

It has been agreed between the two countries that the work of repairing all the border pillars with matching numbers is the responsibility of SSB, while the work of repairing the pillars with matching numbers is the responsibility of Nepal's Armed Police Force (APF).

Nepal's Jhapa district has a 114.2 km long border with India's West Bengal, in which APF has informed that there are a total of 107 border pillars. Along with the repair of border pillars, work of installing new pillars will also be done where these border pillars are broken or missing due to some reason.

It has been agreed that the repair of border pillars should be done in the presence of Border Security Force from both the countries, District Administration, Survey Department, local public representatives from Nepal. So that there is no dispute of any kind in future.
