London, 09 January (HS): The UK government on Thursday announced new sanctions to tackle human trafficking gangs and stop illegal financing that fuels such crime, as part of measures to crack down on illegal immigration.
The government has said that the new sanctions are to target irregular migration and organized immigration crime, allowing authorities to target individuals and entities that undertake dangerous journeys. The new sanctions regime is expected to come into force within this year.
Government experts are working with law enforcement and operational Home Office colleagues to stop financial flows at their source and stop smugglers facilitating irregular migrant movements, including dangerous sea transits to Europe.
Regarding the new ban, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said, We must eliminate the crime gangs that help violate our borders. By weakening the illegal financial gangs that allow smugglers to smuggle vulnerable people across Europe, we will fulfill our plan for transformation and secure the UK borders, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said. This means that we must be bold and innovative in our policymaking process so that we leave no stone unturned. He said that my government will do everything possible to save lives and protect our borders in the years to come.
