Kathmandu, January 10 (HS): Nepal-India Commerce Secretary level meeting has started in Kathmandu from Friday. In this meeting, the trade and transport treaty between the two countries is to be reviewed and necessary changes are to be discussed. Reviewing the trade and transport treaty is the main agenda in the inter-governmental group meeting which started today.
This meeting is being led by India's Commerce Secretary Sushil Barthwal, while the Nepali delegation is being led by Commerce Secretary Govind Bahadur Karki. Apart from Commerce, representatives of other related departments are also present from both sides. Discussions are being held between the two sides about which provisions of the trade and transport treaty are to be changed.
Nepal Commerce Ministry spokesperson Baburam Adhikari said that Nepal has demanded the removal of the ban imposed by India on the export of Nepali products, on which India has shown a positive attitude. There are also preparations to sign a new agreement to stop illegal trade between Nepal and India on Saturday, the last day of the meeting. Under this agreement, legal recognition will be given to stop smuggling from China to India via Nepal.
