Kathmandu, 18 Sep (HS): The Nepal Supreme Court has
banned the screening of all films in Hindi and other foreign languages that
insults Nepal’s religious faith, including scenes and dialogues. The Film
Censor Board has been granted all rights to ban such films.
The verdict was delivered following controversy over the Indian film Prabhas’s ‘Adipurush’. The Supreme Court said that the film showed
distorted historical facts hurting the feelings of Hindu people of Nepal. A
large number of people opposed the screening of the film and also moved the court.
Justice Prakash Dhungana and Justice Manoj Sharma of
the Supreme Court decided in favour of the writ petition filed by Adv Anita
Sapkota. The Censor Board has also been directed to ensure that any film
should not affect Nepal’s relations with the neighbouring or other countries.
