Colombo, 16 Sep (HS): The next prime minister of
Sri Lanka could be a woman. Vijetha Herath, Member of Parliament representing
the National People’s Power (NPP) indicated, according to a report published by
newspaper ‘Daily Mirror’. Herath indicated during a meeting at
Minuwangoda. The new ministry will be constituted after September 21 under
provisions of Article 47.3 of the Constitution. The Parliament will be
dissolved then.
Replying to the possibility of Anura Kumara getting
elected as the President after which NPP will not be in power, Herath said Laxman
Nipuna Arachchi will take oath after Anura’s election and NPP can form a
four-member ministry. Laxman is leading in the polls from Colombo. The
four-member ministry can function for two months till the parliamentary
elections are held.
