Khadmandu, 14 Sep (HS):- The ruling alliance could
not move the impeachment motion against the Deputy Speaker of the House of
Representatives due to differences between parties to the ruling alliance.
Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar is facing charges
of human trafficking. The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) decided to move the
impeachment motion on Tuesday. The party members along with Nepali Congress
representatives also signed the motion. The motion, however, was not moved due
to opposition by the alliance members Janamat Party, and Janata Samajwadi
Party.
Janamat Party President Dr C K Raut said moving the impeachment
motion without completing the parliamentary procedure and giving her an opportunity for a hearing, would not be proper. JSP Vice-president Raj Kishor
Yadav alleged that the two major parties are trying to sideline others in the
alliance. The move to remove the Deputy Speaker is a part of the game.
In the 275-member Parliament two-thirds of the majority
is needed for removing the Deputy Speaker. The ruling alliance has 193 members
of which six of the Janamat Party and five of JSP are opposed to the impeachment
motion. Prime Minister K P S Oli is trying to convince these members.
Nepali Congress leader and former Law Minister Ajay
Chaurasia claims that even without the support of Janamat Party and JSP the ruling
alliance has a majority to remove the Deputy Speaker. However, efforts are
being made to garner support from them.
