Kathmandu, 14 Sep (HS):- Nepal’s Central
Investigation Bureau (CIB) raided a call centre run by a Chinese national and
arrested 50 people working there. The call centre was involved in cheating
people in the cryptocurrency trade.
CIB Spokesperson S P Havindra Bogati informed the
media that the centre in the Ekta Basti area was raided on Wednesday after the CIB
got information about illegal activities. Police investigated for
three days and came out with illegal activities at the centre. The owner came
to Nepal when he was deported from Dubai for involvement in illegal activities.
He used different names to cheat people from different countries including
America, Australia, Europe and Canada. The amount was deposited in different
e-accounts in dollar, euro and pound currencies.
Bogati named the owner of the Call Centre Thing
Chhiyong and Li Kinging. The centre was operating from 9 pm to 5 am. The police
arrested 40 employees at the centre. During the next two days 10 more including
two Chinese and a woman from the Philippines were arrested from different sites in
Kathmandu. Further enquiry into the activities is in progress.
