New Delhi, 8 May (HS): 695 candidates from eigth states and union territories will contest in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024. Voting for this phase will take place on May 20.

According to the information given by the Election Commission, in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024, voting will be held on 49 seats in 8 states and union territories. A total of 1586 nomination papers were filed for this. The last date for filing nomination papers was May 3. After scrutiny of all the nomination papers, 749 nomination papers were found valid. After withdrawal of nominations, 695 candidates are in the fray.

There were a maximum of 512 nomination forms from 13 parliamentary constituencies in Maharashtra. After this, there were 466 nomination forms from 14 parliamentary constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. Maximum 69 nomination forms were received in 4-Chatra parliamentary constituency in Jharkhand, followed by 35 in Uttar Pradesh-Lucknow where 67 nomination forms were received. The average number of candidates contesting a parliamentary seat for the 5th phase is 14.

80 from 5 seats in Bihar, 22 from 1 seat in Jammu and Kashmir, 54 from 3 seats in Jharkhand, 3 from 1 seat in Ladakh, 264 from 13 seats in Maharashtra, 40 from 5 seats in Odisha, 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh. 88 candidates are in the fray from 144 and 7 seats of West Bengal.
