Kolkata, 07 May (HS): The average polling percentage in four Lok Sabha seats of West Bengal was recorded at 49.27 till 1 pm.

According to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Murshidabad recorded the highest polling of 50.58 percent till 1 pm. This was followed by 49.91 percent in Jangipur, 48.65 percent in Malda-South and 47.89 percent in Malda-North. The polling percentage in the by-election for Bhagwangola assembly constituency was 46.40 percent till the same period.

On Tuesday afternoon, as soon as BJP candidate from Malda-South assembly constituency Srirupa Mitra Chaudhary reached the polling station in English Bazar area, workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress started gathering near the booth and started raising slogans of ''go back''. However, the tension was handled after the timely intervention of Police and CAPF personnel.

The BJP leadership complained that a voter assistance camp of the party in Chanchal in Maldah district had to be closed as the BJP workers sitting there were threatened with dire consequences by local Trinamool Congress workers. However, the district leadership of the Trinamool Congress has denied the allegations.
