Preparations for polling in Guwahati


Guwahati, 06 May (HS): Preparations for voting have been completed in Guwahati parliamentary constituency for the third and final phase of Lok Sabha elections in Assam.

Election materials were distributed at Maniram Dewan Trade Center in the capital. A total of 10.55 lakh voters in Kamrup Metropolitan district will cast their votes on Tuesday. There are 26 model polling stations in this area whereas, 100 polling stations will be operated by women officers and employees. GPS service is being used in vehicles.

Dispur, Dimoria, New Guwahati, Guwahati Central and Jalukbari assembly constituencies of Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency in Kamrup Metropolitan district will go to polls in the third and final phase tomorrow. EVMs and other election materials for voting have been distributed today at Maniram Devan Trade Center in the city. Polling officers with election material have left for their polling stations in designated vehicles.

Each vehicle is equipped with GPS to determine the route to and from the polling stations. This process will be monitored by the concerned authorities.

The total number of voters in Kamrup Metropolitan Electoral District is 10,55,6. Of these, 5,15,052 are male and 5,40,596 are female voters. This time there are 36 third gender voters in the district.

According to the Kamrup Metropolitan Election District Office, 15,960 of these voters are new voters in the age group of 18 to 19 years. Whereas, 8,212 are voters above 85 years of age and 912 are service voters. Meanwhile, 1,026 polling stations have been set up in the Kamrup Metropolitan election district. 1,283 presiding officers, 4,620 polling officers and essential security personnel have been deployed to conduct the polling process.

Apart from this, 564 web casting arrangements have been made in the district.

The Election Commission has identified 79 polling stations as critical, 87 as sensitive and five as inaccessible in Kamrup Metropolitan Election District.

Polling stations have already taken necessary steps to conduct the voting process smoothly.

Since the implementation of the code of conduct, more than 61 thousand liters of illicit liquor with a market value of Rs 78 lakh has been seized in Kamrup Metropolitan district.
