Hooghly, May 06 (HS): Trinamool Congress candidate from Serampore Lok Sabha seat Kalyan Banerjee had recently raised about the identity of Serampore BJP candidate Kabir Shankar Bose. Kalyan Banerjee had asked in a public meeting, ''What is the identity of the Serampore BJP candidate? Why does he come to Serampore again and again? What political movement has he done in Serampore and what is his contribution to the development of Serampore?

Kalyan Banerjee had quipped that the BJP candidate had come to Serampore for the first time by holding his hand. He calls himself a barrister, tell me how many cases he has fought. Where is his house, what is his father''s name, which family does he belong to, does anyone know? He has been given the ticket only because he is Kalyan Banerjee''s former son-in-law. Apart from this, he has no identity.''''

Terming Kalyan Banerjee''s statement as a personal attack, Kabir Shankar Bose, BJP candidate from Serampore Lok Sabha seat, held a press conference at the BJP election office in Champdani on Monday. During the press conference, Kabir said, ''Ever since Kalyan Banerjee''s name was announced as the Trinamool Congress candidate from Serampore, he has been misbehaving with his workers and saying nasty things against them. When someone saw him in Navagram of Uttarpara and chanted Jai Shri Ram, Kalyan Banerjee misbehaved with him too. For the last two days, he has been attacking me personally. But personal attacks are not my or my party''s culture. Kalyan Banerjee is raising questions about everyone''s educational qualifications. But Kalyan Babu has not been able to show his certificates to former judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay till now.''

Continued Kabir, ''It is Kalyan Banerjee''s character to stoop to a personal level. He is talking about my father, who has passed away a year ago. But I cannot stoop to such a low level. Kalyan Banerjee himself does not see the condition of his own house and starts making personal attacks on others. Kalyan Banerjee is probably not able to compete with the BJP politically. That is why he is lowering himself to such a level.
