Assam: More than 81 lakh voters to decide the fate of 47 candidates


Guwahati, 06 May (HS): All preparations have been completed for the third and final phase of voting in Assam. The fate of 47 candidates will be decided in the voting by more than 81 lakh voters by pressing the EVM button. Voting will begin at 7 am on Tuesday in four Lok Sabha constituencies of the state, Kokrajhar (ST), Dhubri, Barpeta and Guwahati. Assam Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goyal shared election related information at a press conference held at Janata Bhawan today in connection with the third phase of elections.

According to the Election Commission, mainly Assam Gana Parishad (AGP), All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Bodoland People's Front (BPF) and United People's Party Liberal (YPPPL) are contesting in the third phase.

The total number of voters in the third phase is 81,49,091. In which the number of male voters is 41,00,544, female voters are 40,48,436 and the number of third gender voters is 111.

A total of 9516 EVMs are being used in the elections. According to the average polling stations, the number of voters is urban 1474, rural 8042. Whereas, the number of polling stations run entirely by women is 326, the number of model polling stations is 84, the number of polling stations run by persons with disabilities is 14, the total number of web casting centers is 5266. The total number of candidates in the third phase is 47, of which 41 are men and 6 are women.

Since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, a total of 221 election-related complaints have been filed in the state, out of which 219 have been resolved. At the same time, 12 major cases have been registered.

As part of monitoring of election expenditure, various types of items worth Rs 209.7 crore were seized. In which ₹19.1 crore in cash, 8.26 lakh liters of liquor worth ₹31.8 crore, drugs worth ₹129.5 crore and other objectionable items worth ₹28.8 crore were seized.

On the other hand, since the implementation of the code of conduct till date, a total of 32 weapons have been seized. 85 cartridges and explosives were seized, the number of licensed weapons is 18202. There 15315 weapons were deposited. 2611 warrants were issued, out of which 1185 warrants were executed. A total of 10 election related incidents have been registered so far. However, no major case has come to light yet.

On the other hand, 178 inter-state checkpoints and 440 checkpoints have been installed within the state. Whereas, 502 flying squads have been deployed, along with this 452 statistical monitoring teams and 93 rapid action teams have also been deployed.
