Nepal: Terms for enquiry in cooperative scam not yet finalised

Kathmandu, 25 May (HS):- Consensus could not be reached on the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee for enquiry against Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane. The week-long meetings failed to yield any conclusive decision.

The working committee formed by the ruling and opposition members has not finalised the terms of reference. The dispute is related to the inclusion of Lamichhane’s name. The ruling alliance is not ready to name Lamichhane in the work order, as emphasised by the opposition.

Coordinator of the committee and Law Minister Padam Giri said that the demand of the opposition is not logical. How can the Home Minister be called guilty without any enquiry? Nepali Congress leader Gyanendra Karki claimed that Lamichhane has been named in the preliminary enquiry report. He must be named in the terms of reference drafted for the enquiry committee. He illegally withdrew money from cooperative societies and invested in Gorkha Media. They must be named for conducting enquiry against them.
