Guwahati, 26 April (HS): Voting for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections in Assam took place on Friday in five out of total 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state. According to the data received from the Election Commission, 70.66 percent voting took place till 5 pm. However, this figure is likely to increase further.

On the other hand, a polling agent died while on duty at a polling station in Hailakandi district. The polling agent has been identified as Farooq Ahmed. It is reported that Farooq Ahmed was a polling agent of AIUDF. Ahmed died in the polling booth set up at Gallachheda Primary School in Hailakandi district. Eyewitnesses have said that while on duty the polling agent suddenly fell on the ground, due to which he died.

Till 5 pm, 72.99 percent voting was recorded in Darrang-Udalguri seat of the state. At the same time, 69.62 percent voting was recorded in Diphu Lok Sabha constituency, 71.12 percent in Karimganj, 71.84 percent in Nagaon and 65.57 percent in Silchar.

According to the information so far, voting is going on peacefully. A large number of security personnel have been deployed at the polling stations. In the first phase, voting was held for five Lok Sabha seats of Assam, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Kaziranga, Dibrugarh and Sonitpur.
