Girl bathing in Ganga with elder sister at Assighat drowns, dies


Varanasi, 23 April (HS): A 12-year-old girl, who had come to take bath in the Ganga river with her elder sister at Assighat on Tuesday, slipped and fell into deep water. As soon as the information was received, the NDRF and Water Police team reached the spot and after four hours of hard work, took out the body of the girl from the Ganga.

The family members started crying after seeing the body of the girl. Saloni Prajapati (12), a resident of Sarayanandan Khojwa of Bhelupur police station area, reached Assi Ghat in the morning with her elder sister Sunaina to take a bath in the Ganga. Both the sisters went to Assi Ghat to take bath where there was less traffic. Seeing this, the people present there forbade both of them from taking bath here. But she started bathing.

Meanwhile, Saloni slipped and drowned in deep water. Seeing this, the elder sister raised an alarm and the sailor and other people reached there. The sailors tried hard but could not find the girl in the water, so they informed the NDRF. Two teams each of NDRF and divers reached the spot. The search for the girl continued in the Ganges for four hours. After much effort the girl's body could be taken out. On getting information about the incident, the family members also reached the spot.
