West Bengal Teacher recruitment scam: Kalyan Banerjee personally attacks former judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay, Kabir Shankar Bose requests Bar Council to take action

Hooghly, April 23 (HS): After the Calcutta High Court cancelled the appointment of 23,753 teachers in connection with the West Bengal teacher recruitment scam, senior lawyer and Trinamool Congress candidate from Serampore Lok Sabha seat Kalyan Banerjee personally attacked the former judge and BJP candidate from Tamluk Abhijit Gangopadhyay.

Kalyan Banerjee said, ''This decision of the court will be stayed in the Supreme Court. I have been fighting cases for 43 years, I know that this decision of the court will be stayed. Abhijit Gangopadhyay was a person who followed people around with a briefcase. He became a High Court judge at an old age, at the age of 56 or 57. A lawyer whose practice is going well does not want to become a judge at the age of 50. Only those lawyers become judges at this age who are unable to do anything. People like Abhijit Gangopadhyay become judges in old age by being sycophants so that they can spend their whole life on pension.''

Senior Supreme Court advocate and Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Serampore Lok Sabha seat, barrister Kabir Shankar Bose slammed Kalyan Banerjee for his statement against the former judge.

During an exclusive interaction with Hindusthan Samachar on Tuesday, Kabir demanded the Bar Council to take action against Kalyan Banerjee. Kabir said, ''Banerjee has repeatedly cast aspersions on former justice Abhijeet Ganguly. It is completely unbecoming of a senior advocate to cast aspersions on a former judge. This is undignified behaviour by a senior advocate. But he has repeatedly done this. He is behaved undegnifiedly with many people and he continues to do that. The Bar Council of India should take suo moto cognigence of this and take action for such unparliamentary behaviour and making such aspersians and making derogatory comments on national television.''
