Nagaon (Assam), 23 April (HS): Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has alleged that Congress leaders are like British sahibs. To talk to Congress leaders, the public will first have to learn English.

The Chief Minister was addressing a massive election rally in support of BJP candidate Suresh Bora at Juria in Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday. Taking a jibe at the outgoing Nagaon MP and Congress candidate Pradyut Bordolai, the Chief Minister said that Pradyut Bordolai reaches Nagaon with a suitcase like the 'British Saheb' and then goes back with the suitcase. He is known as a suitcase leader in Assam.

He said that Pradyut Bordolai neither shakes hands with poor people nor meets them like the British. Even if he ever has to shake hands with a poor person, he washes his hands with soap. He said that the public will not get any benefit by voting for the suitcase MP.

The Chief Minister said that corruption has been curbed during the time of BJP government. During the Congress era, bribe had to be paid even for the job of an Anganwadi worker, but today the situation has changed. The Chief Minister said that today even poor people have got jobs on the basis of merit. He said that the culture of corruption has now ended in Assam.

The Chief Minister said that along with development, our government is also serious about the problems of the people. This is the reason why we gave land rights to the people through Basundhara Yojana. Under Arunodaya Yojana, women are being given financial assistance every month. Farmers are being provided assistance under Krishak Samman Nidhi. He said that under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana there is no need to pay bribe for geo tagging of houses. During this, the Chief Minister discussed many schemes of the BJP government and made many allegations against the previous Congress government.
