Islamabad, 20 Apr (HS):- Heavy downpours over Pakistan during one week wreaked havoc. At least 87 people died in the floods and 82 others were injured in different parts of the country, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said.

NDMA said that about 2,715 houses were damaged. Most of the people died in the incidents related to floods, building collapse and lighting strikes, Xinhua News Agency reported.

According to NDMA, Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was the most affected region, where 36 casualties have been reported. At least 53 others were injured. This was followed by eastern Punjab province, which reported 25 deaths and 8 injuries.

Fifteen casualties were reported from Balochistan province. Ten others were injured. Eleven people died and 11 other people injured in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, NDMA said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and property and advised the authorities concerned to provide all possible help to the affected people.

The NDMA predicted that the ongoing rains would continue up to April 22. The rain may trigger flash floods in several areas.
