4 killed, 20 injured as truck hit tractor-trolley in UP


Mainpuri, 20 April (HS): Four women were killed and 20 others were injured after a truck collided with a tractor-trolley here on Saturday, according to authorities. The tragedy occurred about 4 a.m. in Fardpur village, when approximately 35 people on board the tractor-trolley were returning from a child's 'namkaran' ceremony, according to reports.

According to one of the wounded passengers, Virendra Singh Lodhi Rajput, 25 women were among the 35 individuals who went to Beldhara hamlet to attend his daughter's child's birth ceremony.

Inspector Avanish Kumar Tyagi of the Bichwan Police Station stated that when they arrived at Fardpur village, the tractor's headlight had some troubles. They were fixing it on the side of the road when a speeding truck collided with the tractor-trolley.

Twenty injured persons were taken to the district hospital, and four more, including three women, were sent to Safai hospital in serious condition, he added. While Fulmat (35), Ramakanti Devi (45), and Sanjay Devi (30) died on the scene, Dropadi Devi (40) died from her injuries on the route to the hospital, according to the SHO. The villagers apprehended the truck driver and turned him over to the police.
