Congress-SP coalition defeated in first phase: Amit Shah

Mathura, 20 April (HS): union Home Minister Amit Shah declared on Saturday that the Congress-SP alliance was defeated in the first phase of vote in Uttar Pradesh's eight seats.

On Friday, polling took place in Saharanpur, Bijnor, Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Nagina (reserved), Moradabad, Rampur, and Pilibhit.

Addressing an election rally in favor of BJP candidate Hema Malini in Vrindavan, Shah stated, Let me tell you the result of the first phase; don't tell anyone; Congress and SP have been wiped out in the first phase.

Earlier in the day, during an election rally in Meerut, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav declared that the mood in the state had shifted and that people have rejected the BJP following the first day of voting.

Shah, for his part, stated that on the one hand, the Congress and Samajwadi Party are implicated in scams and corruption of Rs 12 lakh crores, while on the other hand, Narendra Modi, after being chief minister for 23 years, is not guilty of any wrongdoing.

He said, There are two camps. On one side, we have our leader Narendra Modi, who was born into a humble family, and on the other, Rahul Baba, who was born with a silver spoon. You have to choose between two.

Jayant Chaudhary, a member of the National Democratic Alliance, also spoke with Shah during the meeting. The second phase of voting, on April 26, will take place in Mathura, Amroha, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, and Aligarh.
