Champdani ready for grand Ram Navami procession, more than twenty thousand Ram devotees expected to participate

Hooghly, 20 April (HS): Like every year, this year too, Champdani town of Hooghly district is ready for the grand Ram Navami procession proposed to be held on Sunday evening. On Saturday, it was noticed that the entire Champdani and Angas area was covered with saffron flags. According to local sources, a coordination meeting was organized by Chandannagar Police Commissionerate for the Ram Navami procession to be held in Champdani, in which the administration put some conditions before of the organizers regarding the Ram Navami procession. On the lines of the Ram Navami procession of Rishra-Serampore, the administration in Champdani has also proposed to the organizers to limit the number of Ram devotees in the procession. The Akharas participating in the procession have been directed that a maximum of 200 people from each Akhara will participate in the procession. Along with this, they will also have to submit a list of 20 volunteers to the administration. Traditionally, a large number of Ram devotees participate in the Ram Navami procession of Champdani with traditional weapons. But this time the administration has banned weapons in the procession.

Champdani Municipality Chairman Suresh Mishra, in an exclusive interaction with Hindusthan Samachar on Saturday, said, ''''Ramnavami procession is taken out with great pomp in Champdani. In more than 35 temples in the entire Champdani, worship of Lord Shri Ram and Hanuman ji is going on continuously. He himself is visiting various temples and inspecting them along with worshiping.'''' Mishra said, ''''During the procession, the opponents are trying to incite people to violence. All the councillors have been asked to be vigilant in their respective areas. We all want Ramnavami procession to be taken out successfully in Champdani this year as well like every year and communal harmony should be maintained in the area.'''' Mishra said that he also wants that whether it is Ramnavami procession or Moharram procession, no one should participate with arms.

It will be interesting to see how much the instructions of the administration are followed in the procession to be taken out in Champdani on Sunday evening. Hindusthan Samachar/Priyanka/Indrani
