Guwahati, 20 April (HS). The results of matriculation examination were declared on Saturday by the Assam Board of Secondary Education. A total of 75.70% candidates passed the examination. In which male candidates passed 77.3%, female candidates passed 74.4% and transgender candidates passed were 80%.

It is noteworthy that a total of 6,392 examinees scored distinction (85% and above). Whereas, 20,552 candidates got star marks (75% to 84.99%). Accordingly, 1,05,873 candidates passed the First Division (with Distinction and Star Mark), 1,50,764 candidates passed the Second Division and 60,680 candidates passed the Third Division.

The total number of letter mark holders is 1,93,159, out of which the highest number of letter mark holders in Social Science subject was 36,973.

It may be noted that Chirang was the top performing district with 91.2% passing percentage. This was followed by Nalbari at 88.1% and Baksa at 86.9%. Along with this, Udalguri district recorded the lowest pass percentage at 60.9%.

The top five candidates in the order of merit is Anurag Dolai from Pragya Academy Senior Secondary School, Jorhat with 593 marks. Jharna Saik with 590 marks from Sankardev Shishu Vidya Niketan, Biswanath Chariyali. Manas Pratim Saikia from Island Academy, Kamlabari, Majuli with 588 marks. Bedanta Chaudhary from Stella Maris School, Sarupeta, Barpeta with 588 marks.

Devashree Kashyap from Ramanujan Senior Secondary School, Nagaon topped fifth with 588 marks.

It is noteworthy that the results of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination held from February 16 to March 4 of the current year was officially declared on April 20, within 45 days of the completion of the examination.

Of the 4,25,966 candidates who had applied for the exam, 6,888 remained absent. 361 students were barred. 61 students were expelled. Thus a total of 4,19,078 candidates appeared in the examination. The appeared candidates included 1,87,904 males, 2,31,164 females and 10 transgenders.

Apart from this, this time the results have been classified into different categories by the board. The pass percentage was General: 76.6%, OBC: 76.6%, MOBC: 75.1%, SC: 70.3%, ST (Hills): 78.9%, ST (Plain): 79.1% and 51.5% of Tea Garden (TG) students passed this exam.
