Myanmar leader Suu Kyi moved from jail, kept under house arrest

Bangkok, 17 Apr (HS): Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been shifted from prison to house arrest. The reason quoted was a severe heat wave. The military rule, however, has not specified the location where she will be put in.

Military Junta Spokesperson Major General Jaw said Suu Kyi was feeling uncomfortable in jail due to severe heat waves. The administration is trying to prevent heatstroke among all those who need necessary precautions, especially elderly prisoners.

Both Suu Kyi (78) and President U Win Myint )72) have been moved from prison. Suu Kyi is undergoing 27 years of imprisonment for various charges levelled against her. Her government was overthrown by the military in 2021 and she was arrested. Her son Kim Eris claimed that she has been kept in isolation and is suffering from several health issues.
