Kathmandu, 01 Apr (HS): Differences between husband and wife, who took different political stands led to their supporters entering into the exchange of blows. The incident took place on Monday, when supporters of Nagarik Unmukt Party founder Resham Chaudhari and his wife Ranjita Shreshtha, who is the Leader of the Parliamentary Party expressed their difference of opinion in strong words. The two have not in good terms for about a month.

Resham Chaudhari was declared ineligible for the post of Chief of the Election Commission. Rajita was then appointed on the post. She is now the Leader of the House and also of the four parties in the ruling alliance. The difference between Resham and Ranjita came to light during the vote of confidence in favour of the Kamal Pushpa Dahal Prachand-led government.

Resham had opposed the alliance with the Leftist parties. At the same time, Ranjita decided to remain in the ruling alliance. Ranjita being the party President the party members followed her. Resham wrote an open letter to her demanding withdrawal from the alliance, which she ignored. The decision also affected two regional governments.

The differences between the two increased to the level that both may agree to separation. The tension between the two is also reflected in their supporters. On Monday Resham instigated his supporters who indulged in the exchange of blows with Ranjita’s supporters. Resham alleged his wife was taking decisions for her personal; political gains.

Ranjita said that the party was in power earlier and remaining in power even without sufficient numbers is not wrong. “I am usinig my power as the Party President and Leader of the House”, she added.
