Ballia, 28 March (HS): A 22-year-old Dalit woman was reportedly raped here, police said on Thursday. Lagandev Yadav, the accused, was apprehended, according to police.

Station House Officer Dharmveer Singh stated that the situation came to light when the rape survivor's mother approached the police on Tuesday night. In her complaint, she claimed that Yadav had raped her daughter on March 7. The SHO stated he made casteist statements against her and threatened to murder her.

According to Singh, the police filed a FIR under the Indian Penal Code sections 376 (rape), 504 (intentional insult with intent to incite breach of peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation), as well as the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
