Ballia, 12 Feb (HS): A 42-year-old man has been detained for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl in a hamlet near here, police said on Monday. The offender, named as Gopal Mishra, a former village head's representative, was apprehended on Sunday late night and jailed on Monday, according to the police.

Ajay Krishna Tripathi, SHO of Dubhar police station, claimed Mishra summoned the 16-year-old girl to his home on February 10 and raped her when she came. According to the SHO, the accused was charged for suspected rape after the teenager's father filed a complaint. Police then apprehended him.
