Sensex and Nifty Soar, But Volatility Looms

Delhi, 26 December (H.S.) : On Thursday, the benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty ended the day with little movement in a lackluster trading session. The Sensex, which tracks 30 of the biggest and most actively traded stocks on the Bombay Stock Exchange, closed just 0.39 points lower at 78,472.48. In comparison, the Nifty, which represents the top 50 stocks on the National Stock Exchange, managed to eke out gains of 22.55 points or 0.1 per cent to close at 23,750.20.

The lack of any major positive triggers and continued foreign fund outflows kept investors cautious and trading activity subdued. Despite briefly rising by 425.5 points or 0.54 per cent in morning trade, the Sensex ultimately ended flat in a listless session.

With monthly expiry of contracts adding to the volatility, the markets were unable to sustain any significant gains and closed with minimal movement. Overall, it was a subdued day for the benchmark indices as they struggled to find direction amidst a lack of near-term triggers and persistent foreign fund outflows.
