Golaghat (Assam), 23 December (HS): Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has said that the old relationship between Assam and Manipur has been rekindled. In the olden times, kings and maharajas used to come here from Manipur and take refuge and live here. Chief Minister Singh was talking to reporters on Monday after attending the passing out parade ceremony at the Lachit Barphukan Police Training Academy in Dergaon.
He said that due to the bad situation in Manipur since May 3 last year, two batches of Manipur Police could not be trained there. He said that he expresses his heartfelt gratitude to Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma that in such a situation, he gave training to the Manipur Police personnel in this training center of Assam Police. He also thanked Assam Director General of Police GP Singh and Special DGP Harmeet Singh for this. He said that after watching today's passing out parade, it is evident how our children have been trained and made efficient policemen.
He said that as a guardian, he is feeling very happy today after seeing their performance. He thanked the Chief Minister and the ministers of Assam on behalf of the people of Manipur.
In response to a question, Biren Singh said that just as the Kuki and Meitei youths have trained together during training here, similarly they will be put to work together there too. He said that all of them will work together to restore permanent peace in Manipur. He said that such a situation did not exist in Manipur earlier. Everyone was living together. The Chief Minister said that this team will not be broken. Everyone will be posted together. Efforts are being made to restore the unity of Manipur which existed earlier. When asked about the measures to control the situation in Manipur, Chief Minister Biren Singh said that the situation is definitely complex, but efforts are being made to control it. He said that peace is slowly being restored in Manipur.
On being asked about infiltration from Bangladesh and Myanmar, he said that this is not just a problem of Manipur but also of all states like Assam, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya etc. We are all working together to solve this. Infiltration is happening everywhere and efforts will be made to stop it.
