Kathmandu, 03 November (HS): Nepal's second international airport has started operating again from Sunday. The first flight from Bangkok landed at Gautam Buddha International Airport built near Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha.
Nepal's Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed happiness over the re-operation of this airport. Oli has expressed confidence that regular operations of Pokhara Airport will also be started soon like Bhairahawa.
Thai Air Asia aircraft landed at Bhairahawa Airport on Sunday, which was brought into operation once again after two years of its construction. About a year ago also, when Bhairahawa Airport was operated for the first time, this airline had started at that time also. Airport spokesperson Vinod Singh Rawat said that due to lack of passengers, the flights of Air Asia and Jazeera Air flying from there were also stopped. Rawat said that on Sunday not a single passenger came from Bangkok by Thai Air Asia flight, while the flight took off from here with only 17 passengers.
The fare from Bhairahawa to Bangkok has been kept at only 7500 Indian rupees. The fare to Bangkok from any city of India ranges from 10 thousand to 15 thousand rupees. The fare has been kept low because this airport is in Bhairahawa, a city on the border of India. The fare to go to Bangkok from this airport, which is just an hour away from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, is 7500 rupees.
