Dibrugarh (Assam), 3 November (HS): Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday addressed the student community while participating as the chief guest on the 78th Foundation Day of Assam Medical College and Hospital and the 62nd Foundation Day of Dibru College. Sonowal highlighted the work of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government to improve the education sector of the country, which has put India on the path of becoming a 'Vishwa Guru'.

Union Minister Sonowal told the young students of Assam Medical College, The role of any doctor is important in developing scientific thinking in the society. It is a matter of great pride that the rich heritage of Assam Medical College is in the safe hands of all of you, so that this thinking can be taken forward and the lives of people can be enriched physically and mentally. The efficiency of the doctor community as well as our scientists proved to be very important in reducing the threat of Covid. While vaccination made people healthy, the selfless service of the doctor community played a vital role in making the community healthy.

The Union Minister said that when it comes to clinical excellence, the talent of India's doctors is top notch. The rapid growth of medical tourism is a testimony to this. While, we excel in contemporary medicine, our age-old traditional medicinal systems have proven effective in making health and mind healthy. India's biggest soft power export to the world is Yoga, which is making the health and mind of the entire human healthy.

He said that today, under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are integrating the best of traditional medicine with modern medicine to provide a holistic treatment and provide complete well-being. The legacy of Assam Medical College must be nurtured to support our talent to become world-class doctors and researchers. Apart from the Assam government's commitment of ₹300 crore for improving infrastructure, as the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha MP, he will certainly add to it to enhance the potential of AMC as a leading centre of care and treatment in the region. AMC is the pride of Dibrugarh, the pride of Assam and the pride of the Northeast. You will continue to inspire generations and heal humanity.”
