Guwahati, 17 November (HS): Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is conducting regular search operations in stations and trains to prevent the transportation of prohibited items.
In the search operation conducted in this zone from 1 to 15 November of the current year, RPF detained 3 people and recovered prohibited items worth more than ₹11.14 lakh from them.
CPRO of NFR Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said on Sunday that RPF of NFR recovered prohibited items and narcotics worth more than ₹1.42 crore and detained 28 people during various search operations conducted in this zone in the month of October of the current year. Recently, on November 8, RPF and GRP teams of Agartala jointly conducted a search operation at Agartala station. During the search, the said team recovered 10 kg ganja, worth about ₹1 lakh and detained one person in this connection. Later, the apprehended person along with the recovered ganja was handed over to the in-charge of Agartala GRP for further action.
In another incident, on November 11, the CIB team of Guwahati RPF detained two persons at Guwahati Railway Station and recovered 55 bottles of liquor worth more than ₹10,000. Later, the apprehended persons along with the recovered liquor were handed over to the Excise Department, Guwahati for further necessary action.The CPRO of NFR has informed that RPF teams at various levels carry out continuous drives and searches in all suspicious trains, stations and passenger areas to keep the railways free from drug trafficking. Railway passengers can dial 139 (toll-free) in case they face any problem during their train journey.
