Guwahati, 6 October (HS): The investigative officer of Bharalumukh PS of Guwahati has arrested the driver of a Bolero vehicle on charges of murder after a road accident. Police said on Sunday that on the night of October 3, at around 10:50 pm, a person was found in a seriously injured condition near Pragjyotishpur College in the Bharalumukh PS area and admitted to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). He was identified as Tayyabuddin Ahmed (35, Darang). Tayyabuddin Ahmed died on October 4 during treatment.

After this, the police started investigating. In the initial investigation, the police found this incident to be a road accident. When the police inquired about the accident from the people present at the accident site, it was found that after the accident, the driver dragged Tayyabuddin Ahmed for about 400 meters. The vehicle involved in the accident had Assam Government written on it.

Based on CCTV footage and witness statements, the vehicle (AS-01DP-9853) of the National Health Mission office located in Guwahati's Christian Basti area involved in the accident was seized. The driver Lal Hussain Ali (45) involved in the accident was arrested from the office itself. During interrogation, Lal Hussain Ali confessed his crime. The accused revealed that he wanted to kill Tayyabuddin Ahmed. Because, Ahmed had an illicit relationship with Ali's wife Anjuma Begum. Tayyabuddin Ahmed had married thrice and was currently living with Anjuma Begum, who was the wife of accused Lal Hussain Ali. Lal Hussain Ali had also married twice. Anjuma Begum was Lal Hussain Ali's second wife. Anjuma Begum had a love affair with Tayyabuddin Ahmed and recently Anjuma Begum left Lal Hussain Ali and started living with Tayyabuddin Ahmed like a husband and wife. Tayyabuddin Ahmed used to sell fruits and vegetables at Railway Gate No. 9 in Shantipur. He already had two wives Regina Begum and Asiya Khatun. He had also developed an illicit relationship with Anjuma Begum, who was the second wife of Lal Hussain Ali, for the last 4 years. Anjuma Begum was living separately in a rented house in Shantipur for the last two years. Lal Hussain Ali was trying to fix his marital life. But he was unable to fix it due to the extramarital affair going on between his wife and Tayyabuddin Ahmed. Enmity developed between Tayyabuddin Ahmed and Lal Hussain Ali over this matter. Two months ago, Tayyabuddin Ahmed left his former wives and started living with Anjuma Begum in a rented house in Shantipur. On the day of the incident, the driver Lal Hussain Ali dropped his employer at his residence and took the government vehicle with him instead of leaving it to his employer on the pretext of rain. Meanwhile, he planned to kill Tayyabuddin Ahmed by hitting him with his vehicle. Ali was aware of the time and route of Ahmed returning home daily after closing the shop. As per his plan, he came to the area near Shantipur main road in a Bolero vehicle at around 9.18 pm and waited on the roadside. When Ahmed started returning from the said road near Shantipur at around 10.42 pm, Ali, who was waiting for the right opportunity, hit Ahmed from behind with a Bolero vehicle at a very high speed. Ahmed was dragged for about 400 meters till Pragjyotish College gate. Ahmed was seriously injured in this incident. He died in the hospital on the second day of the accident. Further action is being taken against the arrested accused on the basis of FIR registered in Bharalumukh police station under case number 180/24 section 61(2)(A)/103(1)/238(A) BNS in connection with the incident.
