Nagaon (Assam), 27 October (HS): A case of attempting to burn a youth alive by pouring petrol has come to light in Kasuwa area of Nagaon district. Police said on Sunday that a youth named Lukman Ali was set on fire by a driver named Shafikul Islam by sprinkling petrol on him in Teenali market under Kasuwa police station.

Sources have said that, during the day, there was an altercation between the two over something. Around 10:00 pm, a person named Lukman Ali got down from the car in Teenali market. During this time, Shafikul Islam poured petrol on him and set him on fire. Lukman Ali, who was in a serious condition, was admitted to the hospital for treatment by the local people. Lukman Ali, who was burnt in the fire, was referred to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital where he is battling between life and death. After the incident, the local people caught Shafikul Islam and beat him badly and handed him over to the police. In connection with this incident, Lukman Ali's father Ali Mian has lodged an FIR against Shafikul Islam in Kasuwa police station. Local parties and organizations have strongly condemned the incident and demanded the strictest punishment for the arrested accused. Police are investigating the case on the basis of the lodged complaint.-------
