Barpeta (Assam), October (HS): Nine business establishments have been completely burnt to ashes during a fire in Baghbar weekly market of Barpeta district. Police said on Thursday that as soon as the news of the fire in Baghbar weekly market was received, the fire brigade team reached the spot and by the time the fire was controlled with the help of local people and police, the goods present in nine business establishments were burnt to ashes.

More than 600 maunds of jute was burnt to ashes due to the fire. During the fire, the business establishments of Saheb Hussain, Saddam Hussain, Matleb Ali, Zainal Avedin, Hazrat Ali, Barek Ali, Falu Miyan, Alauddin and Qadir Ali were completely burnt to ashes. Property worth lakhs of rupees has been lost due to the fire.

However, it is not known how the fire started. Police have expressed apprehension that the fire might have been caused due to short circuit. The police have registered an FIR in this regard and are investigating the matter. No one was injured in the accident.
