New Delhi, October 18 (HS): The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Delhi Police on the demand for an early hearing on the petition of former MP Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, accused in the sexual abuse case of women wrestlers, seeking a stay on the FIR lodged against him and the ongoing hearing in the trial court. Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri ordered the next hearing of the case on December 16.
The Delhi High Court, while hearing the petition of Brijbhushan Singh on September 26, had issued a notice to the Delhi Police. Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri ordered the next hearing on this matter on January 13, 2025. Brijbhushan has sought an early hearing from the High Court on this matter.
On August 29, the High Court refused to give any relief to Brijbhushan. The court had said that you want to end the entire case after the trial has started. The High Court had said that when the trial has already begun, you are challenging the order of framing of charges. You indirectly want to end the entire case.
During the hearing, advocate Rajiv Mohan, appearing for Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, had said that this entire matter is about a hidden agenda. The complainants do not want the petitioner to remain on the post of President of the Indian Wrestling Association. Delhi Police opposed his argument and said that the petition is not worth hearing.
The trial in this case has started in the Rouse Avenue Court from July 26. On May 21, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and another co-accused Vinod Tomar had told the court that they would face the trial. Both of them refused to accept the charges framed by the court in the case and said that if no mistake has been committed, then there is no question of accepting it.
On May 10, the Rouse Avenue Court had ordered framing of charges against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The court had ordered to frame charges against Brijbhushan Sharan Singh on the allegations made by five out of six female wrestlers, while Brijbhushan Sharan Singh was acquitted in the case of allegations made by one female wrestler.
The court had ordered to frame charges against Brijbhushan Sharan Singh under sections 354, 354A and 506 of the Indian Penal Code in the case of sexual exploitation of five female wrestlers. The court had ordered to frame charges against co-accused in this case and former secretary of the Indian Wrestling Association Vinod Tomar under section 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
